The DEJUDE (Law, Justice, and Democracy) research group is an academic and scientific initiative whose main objective is to study and promote the fundamental principles that underpin modern democratic societies, focusing on the interrelationships between law, justice, and democracy. Its mission is to deepen understanding of the dynamics that enable the construction of a fair, equitable, and fully democratic rule of law, working on the theoretical and practical analysis of contemporary legal and political systems.
The DEJUDE group covers several interdisciplinary areas of research, with a comprehensive and cross-cutting approach that explores the interaction between legal institutions, public policies, and human rights. This is particularly true in Latin America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. - Fomento del estudio sobre la materia y desarrollo de trabajos de investigación y fomentar la interacción entre los ecosistemas académicos y expertos nacionales e Internacionales, a través de un enfoque crítico, comparado e integrador.
- Contribuir a la formación académica de nuevos investigadores y profesionales del derecho, la justicia y la política mediante la realización de proyectos, seminarios, congresos y publicaciones académicas. Actividades de transferencia de conocimiento y divulgación.
- Fomentar el diálogo académico, político y social entre actores nacionales e internacionales sobre los temas de relevancia para el fortalecimiento del derecho, la justicia y la democracia.
- Promover la justicia social y el respeto a los derechos humanos como pilares fundamentales del sistema democrático, analizando los desafíos y las soluciones desde un enfoque normativo y práctico.
- Desarrollar investigaciones que profundicen en los beneficios y desafíos de la justicia restaurativa y otros mecanismos adecuados de resolución de conflictos (MASC).
- Realizar estudios de impacto y análisis críticos sobre las políticas públicas y su efectividad en la mejora de la justicia social y la consolidación democrática.
- Freedoms and Democracy.Analysis of current democratic systems and their legal configuration in terms of public freedoms of citizens. Study on the reduction of freedoms in favor of greater security for the population. Proposals for possible regulations or measures that balance the principles of freedom and security and their possible implementation in practice
- Restorative justice, process, and MASC.Effectiveness of decisions made in conflict resolution proceedings and the consequences of non-compliance. Treatment of these decisions in subsequent legal proceedings. Study on their possible expansion to other crimes and the benefits that their greater implementation would bring in practice. Research on the positive effects of mediation on victims. We delve into the advances in so-called proximity justice and access to justice, with special emphasis on facilitating access for the most vulnerable groups and ensuring its ongoing adaptation to social reality.
- Trade unionism and social dialogue.Study of the evolution of society's perception of trade unions, focusing on the benefits of trade union participation in the development of labor legislation. Reformulation of social dialogue in today's society.
- Public safety and policing.Police security functions and strategies implemented to maintain security in urban centers. Analysis of existing conflict management mechanisms within the police force and training of officers in these tools. Collaboration projects with other police forces at the national and international level for the transfer of knowledge and methods to develop police mediation at the international level. Proposal for a harmonized police mediation system between different countries. We are talking about new police functions, transparency, good practices, information management, and also conflict management, security, and coexistence through a key tool: police mediation.
- Law, Artificial Intelligence, Gender Perspective, and Diversity.The need to respond to new situations that are currently developing, the regulation of artificial intelligence, and the benefits of its implementation in different areas such as law enforcement and the judiciary. Training of legal practitioners in equality, gender perspective, and diversity.
