Environmental Economics, Sustainability and Social Impact
NO DETERMINADA
- Economic valuation of ecosystem services. This research line focuses on identifying, quantifying, and economically valuing the benefits that ecosystems provide to society, such as climate regulation, the provision of water and food, pollination, protection against natural hazards, and recreational and cultural values. The objective is to translate these services, which are usually not reflected in markets, into economic terms that facilitate their integration into cost-benefit analysis, the design of public policies, and private decision-making. The research combines methods from environmental economics, econometrics, and interdisciplinary analysis to support conservation strategies, sustainable land management, and economic development compatible with the preservation of natural capital.
- Support for public planning and decision-making in environmental and economic policy. This research line aims to provide analytical tools and empirical evidence to support public administrations in the design, evaluation, and monitoring of economic-environmental policies. It focuses on analyzing the economic, social, and environmental impacts of different policy alternatives, incorporating criteria of efficiency, equity, and sustainability. The objective is to improve the quality of public decision-making, promoting more effective management of natural resources and a transition towards sustainable development models.
- Efficiency and Cost-Benefit Analysis. This research line focuses on assessing the efficiency of policies, programs, and projects through the systematic comparison of their costs and benefits from an economic, social, and environmental perspective. Its objective is to support informed decision-making by identifying alternatives that maximize social welfare, optimize the use of limited resources, and strengthen transparency and accountability in public action.
- Life Cycle Costing (LCC) assessment. This research line focuses on the comprehensive analysis of all costs associated with a product, project, or infrastructure throughout its entire life cycle, from the design and construction phases to operation, maintenance, and end of life. The LCC approach helps identify more efficient and sustainable alternatives, supporting decision-making through long-term cost comparisons and the optimization of resource use, particularly in the fields of public investment, infrastructure, and environmental management.
