Image-Guided Diagnosis and Therapy Research Group. - GIDPGI

Reference of the Group:

GIUV2026-047

Description of research activity:

This research group not only develops its activity in the field of diagnostic imaging, in its two aspects, diagnostic and interventional, but also in radiotherapy, with a clinical and translational approach aimed at improving patient management. The lines of work focus on the advanced assessment of body composition using imaging techniques, specifically in patients with advanced head and neck cancer, analysing the impact of malnutrition, muscle mass and function as relevant prognostic factors. Likewise, the follow-up of abdominal aortic aneurysms treated by endovascular procedures is addressed, comparing different imaging techniques and exploring imaging biomarkers with potential clinical application. The group is also investigating the assessment of tumour response after different radiotherapy modalities, including standard fractionated radiotherapy and radiosurgery, by analysing structural and functional changes in CT (computed tomography) and MR (magnetic resonance) studies.

Scientific-technical goals:

Research lines:
  • Evaluation of body composition in imaging techniques of patients with advanced head and neck cancer..In patients with head and neck carcinoma in whom there is a high risk of suffering from malnutrition and its consequences on the body composition, evaluation is essential given the significant prognostic value of low muscle mass and decreased muscle function in cancer patients.
  • Follow-up of abdominal aortic aneurysms using imaging techniques after endovascular procedures..The evolutive control of patients diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm and treated by endovascular techniques using imaging techniques such as CT, MR, and ultrasound allows us to compare their efficacy in follow-up, and to find imaging biomarkers applicable in clinical practice.
  • Assessment of response after standard fractionated radiotherapy and/or radiosurgery..The effect of the different radiotherapy modalities used in daily clinical practice is determined largely by the changes caused by this treatment in the CT and MR images obtained from the treated patients.
