As of the 1st of June 1992, the CECT acquired the status of International Depository Authority (IDA) under the regulations of the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedures. The CECT is therefore the only international authority for the deposit of bacteria, archaea, filamentous fungi and yeasts for purposes of patent existing in Spain.
This type of deposit should only be made when a patent application is going to be filed and only if such a deposit is necessary to meet the requirement of sufficient disclosure. This type of deposit has a fixed duration, cannot be withdrawn, and access to samples of the microorganisms is governed by the provisions of the Regulations of the Budapest Treaty.
You can see the fees associated with this type of deposit in the fees section. In the invoice, shipping costs for the delivery of the strains for authenticity checking (if requested) will be included (check fees)
Anyone interested in depositing strains in this way, should fill in the Patent Purposes Deposits: Budapest form at the LIMS platform of the CECT
Please see the Guide to the Deposit of Microorganisms in the CECT
IMPORTANT: Review the Packaging Guide before shipping the samples. In all cases the outer packaging must be rigid (box or tube) and filled with packaging material (e.g. padding material or paper) to prevent movement of the samples inside the package.
