Strains deposited in this way will be available to the national and international scientific community, including public and private entities.

This type of deposit is free of charge and it is the required one when a new species is to be described.

Since 2012 CECT participates in an initiative that aims to harmonize and rationalize the conservation of microbial genetic resources in Europe (MIRRI). In this sense, the new accession policy aims to avoid duplication and to facilitate an efficient management of these resources.

For this reason, depositors are requested to contact the archaea and bacteria section (bacterias@cect.org) or fungi section (hongos@cect.org) before starting the deposit procedure indicating:

- species name or proposed taxonomic designation

- relevant characteristics of the strain (publications, properties, etc)

CECT will study all applications and, where needed, will recommend the most appropriate European culture collection to the depositor.

In order to formalize a public deposit, interested parties must:

  1. Fill in the on-line "deposit form" https://deposits.cect.org/login.php?locale=en_US (you can consult the tutorials website at: tutorials.strainsapp.org)
  2. Download the deposit form, sign it electronically and send it by e-mail to: bacterias@cect.org or hongos@cect.org. If you do not have electronic signature, print the document, sign it and send it together with the cultures (step 3)
  3. Send two samples of a pure culture of the microorganism to be deposited

Please see the Guidelines for depositing strains in the CECT at our web page.

IMPORTANT: Review the Packaging Guide before shipping the samples. In all cases the outer packaging must be rigid (box or tube) and filled with packaging material (e.g. padding material or paper) to prevent movement of the samples inside the package.
