The University of Valencia (UV) has improved in uniRank, an international ranking where more than 13,600 universities are evaluated and the 200 best are ranked based on their presence on the web and their popularity in terms of estimated traffic, trust and quality links. Thus, the institution has become third in Spain (fifth in 2019), thirty-second in Europe (last year in the 61st position), number 158 in the world (at 239th place the previous edition), and remains the first of the Valencian Community.
The UniRank University Rankings is an international directory of higher education and search engine that includes centres, among others, that offer at least four years of undergraduate and postgraduate studies and teach at least in person. Web metrics data is collected during the same week to minimise temporal fluctuations and maximise comparability.
In the last update, among 75 universities in Spain, the ranking is headed by the Universities of Barcelona, Complutense of Madrid, Valencia, Granada and Autonomous of Barcelona. In Europe, Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich and University College London rank first, while the top five in the world are all American: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard, Stanford, California (Berkeley) and Purdue.
In addition, uniRank presents two rankings to evaluate the presence and popularity of universities in two of the main social networks: Facebook and Twitter. On Facebook, the popularity depends on the number of people who like the page (likes) and followers (fans count). In the classification, updated this March, the UV, with 63,909 followers, occupies the ninth position in Spain and the first in Valencia, a place that has been repeating since 2018.
