In the extraordinary meeting held yesterday, May 8th, by the Universitat de València’s Governing Council, it was claimed the withdrawal of the Royal Decree-Law 14/2012. This new regulation increases the university registration fees and modifies the lecturers’ teaching hours. The text was adopted at unanimity after some representatives stated their arguments.

The Governing Council expressed its ‘sense of unease’ because of ‘the change in the public university system, which has been conducted through the consecutive adoption of emergency regulations. These regulations’ measures had not been informed previously to the university community nor had been debated.’ The document adds: ‘Using the need of reducing public spending as an excuse, they are implementing the transfromation of the model of public university, which has been operating from the recovering of democracy in Spain.’
