If you have started but not completed a degree programme that is currently being phased out, your academic transcript can be adapted in a way that converts the original passed subjects into the corresponding subjects in the new degree programme. These “Adaptation Rules” establish equivalence.

Adaptation Rules

For each degree programme there is a table with equivalences between the subjects in the new degree programme and the original degree programme. This information can be consulted by clicking on "Queries regarding Adaptation Rules" at Studentportal.

How the grades are represented

  • When an original subject corresponds to a subject in the new degree programme the same grade is maintained.
  • When more subjects are involved, the average grade is weighted. If you earned a distinction with honours in one of the subjects, it can be transferred to the new degree programme only if the average weighted grade is equal or superior to 9.00

Depending on your academic situation you can adapt yourself through one of the following procedures:

If you already have a 3-year degree or a 3-year engineering degree

In some studies there is the possibility of taking a Course of Adaptation to obtain the corresponding undergraduate degree. It is a group of subjects providing additional training for students who have finished 3-year degree programmes and 3-year engineering degree programmes in previous plans. The corresponding undergraduate degree is awarded on successful completion of this course. There is a minimum of 30 credits including the final project and a work placement/internship (if required in the undergraduate degree). These subjects may be recognised, according to the criteria established by the Degree Committee (Comisiòn Académica del Título), if they were successfully completed in the previous degree programme. Your academic record will show that all subjects previously taken are recognised and will incorporate new subjects until necessary training is completed in order to obtain the undergraduate degree.

If you are a student who has begun but not completed a degree being phased out: 3-year degree (diplomatura), 3-year engineering degree (ingeniería técnica), 5-year engineering degree (ingeniería) or 5-year degree (licenciatura)

You can adapt your academic file so that successfully completed subjects are converted into subjects corresponding to the new undergraduate degree programme, according to the “Adaptation Rules” which establish equivalence. An equivalence table has been set up showing the equivalence among subjects of the new and original degree programmes. When an original subject corresponds to a subject in the new degree programme, the same grade is maintained. When more original subjects are involved, the average grade is calculated for the new degree programme. If a distinction with honours was earned in one of the original subjects, it can be maintained in the new programme only if the average grade is equal to or greater than 9.00.
When students request adaptation to the new undergraduate degree programmes, the following equivalence table for undergraduate degrees is used. In all cases, the four exam attempts set by the regulations are respected.
