A little history

Background of the University School of Business Studies

The University School of Business Studies has its origin in the former School of Commerce. In the eighteenth century the first official regulations related to the organisation of business studies emerged. The degree in commerce, as such, was created by the Royal Decree of 8 September 1850, establishing SchImagen del Rei amb els comerciantsools of Commerce in Madrid, Barcelona, La Coruña, Malaga, Santander, Sevilla and Valencia. Subsequently, the Valencia School of Commerce was inaugurated on 19 January 1902 which has meant, since its inception, the maintenance and historical continuity of business studies in our city.

The General Education Act of 1970 restructured the Schools of Commerce, which became known as University Schools of Business Studies, accounting for technical studies of the university first cycle in the field of its specialty. In 1972, The Valencia School of Commerce became part of the University of Valencia, known as the University School of Business Studies, and began to offer the Diplomatura (3-year degree) in Business Sciences. In the 1998-1989 academic year, the university extension in Ontinyent was created and the 3-year degree in Tourism was included in the University’s degree programmes.
