From the analysis of the toponymical urban area of the Horta of Valencia we are able to virtually reconstitute part of the extinct cultural landscape of the Horta.

This landscape would be:

  • open of irrigated land (normally herbal crops watered by a complex system of irrigation ditches and dams)
  • dry land towards the mountains (with tree-like and bush-like crops, considerably olives and vineyards)
  • with concentrated and scattered population, especially alqueries
  • connected by paths and tracks,
  • which would also include hostels
  • and cliffs, salt mines, eye teeth, marshes and coast accidents
  • as well as high stony areas in the West and North
  • as well as towers and fortresses
  • and some port facilities (see figure)
