Carlos Briones presents his latest book in València

The Casa de la Ciència of CSIC in València hosts the presentation of “A bordo de tu curiosidad: un viaje por las preguntas y retos de la ciencia actual”, the latest book by CSIC researcher, science populariser and poet Carlos Briones. The event will be held on Wednesday May 15 at 19h and is organized by I2SysBio on the occasion of the visit of the students of the Master in Integrative Synthetic Biology (MISB, CSIC-UIMP).

The book “A bordo de tu curiosidad: un viaje por las preguntas y retos de la ciencia actual” (Crítica, 2024) shells, through 52 questions, essential aspects of contemporary science. In this work, Carlos Briones not only provides us with rigorous and basic information to understand the universe, life and humans and satisfy the curiosity of all ages. He also vindicates with passion and humour critical thinking as an antidote to pseudoscience. Beautifully and suggestively illustrated by Kim Amate, Briones' book is an invitation to recognize science as an integral part of culture.

Carlos Briones is a CSIC researcher at the Centre for Astrobiology (a joint CSIC-INTA institute) where he leads a group dedicated to the study of the origin and early evolution of life, RNA viruses and the design of biosensors to detect life forms on Earth and beyond. An excellent communicator, he has a wide range of informative work, including his previous book “¿Estamos solos? En busca de otras vidas en el Cosmos” (Crítica 2020). In 2019 he received the Tesla Award for his career as a science communicator. In the field of literature, he is the author of several books of poetry and in 1993 he was awarded the Hiperión prize for the collection of poems “De donde estás ausente”.

Carlos Briones will talk about his latest book with Juli Peretó, professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Valencia and researcher at the Institute of Integrative Systems Biology I2SysBio (joint center CSIC-UV).

The event will take place in the Sala de actos, Casa de la Ciència (C. Batlia, 1. Plaça de la Verge, València), on Wednesday, May 15 at 7 pm. Admission is free until full capacity is reached.
