Biography | ||

I hold a degree in Economics and a PhD in Local Development and International Cooperation by the University of Valencia (with PhD extraordinary award). My main research interest lies on territorial development processes, in particular in the role of social innovation in promoting community-led development in rural areas. My research activity also focuses on social economy and social enteprise, territorial governance, and vulnerable groups. I have published in international journals such as Journal of Rural Studies and Sociologia Ruralis. Also, in Spanish journals such as Cuadernos Geográficos or Documents d'Anàlisi Geogràfica. I have participated in several scientific conferences, most of which were international, and published two books on territorial development. My research background have an international focus, which has been facilitated by research collaborations in the UK. In 2018, I conducted research at the James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen. The following year, I continued my activity at the University of Lincoln. During the academic year 2022-2023, I was visiting scholar at the Northumbria Centre for Innovation, Regional Transformation, and Entrepreneurship, located within Northumbria University's Business School in Newcastle. I have actively participated in both national and European projects that address various dimensions and challenges related to territorial development and, mainly, to rural development. Notably, I have been involved in projects such as ROBUST, which has allowed me to contribute to the knowledge and understanding of rural-urban linkages and synergies. I am also member of the Spanish research project 'Depopulation in Spain: from demographic challenge to territorial challenge'. In these projects, I have primarily used qualitative techniques, complemented by Social Network Analysis. By working closely with practitioners and third sector organisations, including LEADER Local Action Groups and similar organisations in rural England, I have gained practical insights and fostered meaningful collaborations that enhance the relevance and impact of my research beyond academia. Finally, I have taught courses in different degrees, for instance, in geography and environmental studies, political science and administration, tourism, business management, or law, as well as at the master's level on local development and public policies. Additionally, I have actively participated in educational innovation projects, resulting in publications on new teaching methodologies. I am currently Assistant Professor at the department of applied economics at the University of Valencia. |
