“Mètode” will publish its yearbook in English, with migration articles, science and literature, statistics and philosophy of science

“Mètode” magazine will publish its 2015 yearbook in English under the title of “The Light of Science”. The new edition of “Mètode Science Studies Journal”, with 224 pages, contains published articles during last year. In this way, they are in English: “Roaming: Spread, migration and diaspora”, “Meetings: the crossroads between science and literature”, “Science figures: statistics as a scientific tool” and “What is science? A multidisciplinary approximation to scientific thought”.

In this way, the fifth yearbook written in English of “Mètode” gathers some very different topics, with texts dedicated to human and animal migration, to the meeting points between science and literature, to the history of statistics and the different applications of this tool, and finally, to the concept of science and of the scientific method.

The following monographs gather scientific and research articles, such as David Comas (Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona); Marta Segarra (University of Barcelona); Miquel Barceló (Polytechnic University of Barcelona); Roslynn Haynes (Australian Academy of Humanities); David Rossell (Warwick University); Valen Johnson (Texas A&M University); Jean Bricmont (Catholic University of Leuven); Patricia Fara (Cambridge University); Elliott Sober (Wisconsin-Madison University) or Susanna Priest (Science Communication), among others.

This volume starts with a column of Esteban Morcillo, Principal of Universitat de València, in which he confirms the Universitat commitment and the “Mètode” magazine with the communication and spread of the scientific thought: “Science is culture and to spread it is one of our commitments”, he confirms.

Furthermore, The Light of Science offers three documents, which were published in “Mètode” last year: «The abuser’s profile”, by Ángel Romero Martínez, Marisol Lila and Luis Moya Albiol (Universitat de València); “Antoni de Martí Franquès and the spontaneous generation”, by Agustí Camós (Autonomous University of Barcelona); and “Distributive justice and evolution”, by Paula Casal (Pompeu Fabra University).

Regarding the cover of this yearbook, “Mètode” had the collaboration of artist Javier Palacios (Jerez de la Frontera, 1985). Palacios works with the implicit possibility of every object to be able to transform itself in broader concepts, which arouse metaphors. In “Entes” we can see a series of objects which suggest plenty of readings from the relationship between two languages: descriptive and analytic realism, y and the abstract and geometric; in between, light.

Mètode” magazine, organised by the biologist and journalist Martí Domínguez, started in 2013 a new period with the publication of the Mètode Science Studies Journal yearbook, which includes articles which are revised by experts and which a scientific committee of international recognition with the support of researchers and scientifics such as Janet Browne (Harvard University), Leah Ceccarelli (Washginton University), Danniel C. Dennett (Tufts University), Dominique Brossard (Wisconsin-Madison University), Thomas Glick (Boston University), Martin Rees (Cambridge University) o Michael Ruse (Florida State University). Concurrently, MÈTODE magazine will continue with its commitment with the spread of science thoughout its quarterly edition in Catalan and Spanish and its website www.revistametode.com.
