Four hospitals in Valencia (La Fe, Peset, Clínic and General) have received from Monday 25 February 486 medical students from the University. This initiative is part of the plan to integrate teaching in hospitals for third-year students. The reception at the Universitary Hospital Doctor Peset this morning was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Federico Pallardó, who claimed that "public health and public university teaching are required to go together."
In this sense, Federico Pallardó has reaffirmed the commitment of the University of Valencia with quality teaching in the public school system. "The new medical program requires a substantial increase in hours of clinical practice in hospitals and health centers. It is therefore essential to continue relying on the close working relationship between management of our four university hospitals, represented today by Vicente Pastor, and the University of Valencia," added Pallardó.
Also, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry has ensured that this internship of students "will be assessed according to the guidelines of the new curriculum coordinated by our teachers and linked with the invaluable help of the service chiefs of the various Health Departments. "
The head of the university centre also had words for the 100 students of the University that are now integrated into the dynamics of the Universitary Hospital Doctor Peset, to learn, and give the best of themselves: "I hope you bring forth your potential, you are the best of the University, and you have to prove it. I'm sure you can. " Pallardó also highlighted the prestige of a hospital such as Peset.
The manager of the Universitary Hospital Doctor Peset, Vicente Pastor, for his part, thanked the cooperation of the University, and its support to the universitary hospital. We also wanted to thank the professionals who are teaching, as well as future health professionals.
The 100 third-year students of the Degree in Medicine of the University of Valencia that have arrived in Doctor Peset will receive in this public health center training and education within the new plan of integrated teaching in hospitals, which launches today in the four universitary hospitals in Valencia: La Fe, Clínic, Peset and General.
This plan creates a new model of teaching hospital where students will, in addition to clinical practice, receive lectures, with the intention that in the coming years and gradually, the training is done in a comprehensive manner in hospitals from the first year.
Training in 4 subjects
For the Universitary Hospital Doctor Peset, theoretical training will be given to four subjects: immunopathology, radiology and nuclear medicine, otolaryngology and cardiovascular. These lectures, which will complement the practical training of the students, will be taught in the classrooms of the Valencian School of Health Studies, located near the Universitary Hospital Doctor Peset.
"Decentralization of teaching of the Degree in Medicine will allow students to learn more about the full scope of health and work place in the future. Until now only research and assisting teaching was offered in hospitals and health centers Now we can expand that area and combine theoretical knowledge with practice," said Vicente Pastor, Manager of Valencia Health Department - Doctor Peset.
