The eighth edition of the International Medium-lenght Films Festival of La Cabina in Valencia, organised by the Cinema Club of the Universitat de València in collaboration with CulturArts-IVAC, starts today. During the presentation, they informed about the programming (http://www.lacabina.es) and the last medium-lenght film competing in Official Section: “Interior. Leather Bar” by James Franco was revealed.
To the presentation assisted Antonio Ariño, vice-principal for Culture and Equality of the Universitat de València; José Luis Moreno, general director of CulturArts Generalitat, and Carlos Madrid, director of La Cabina – International Medium-lenght Films Festival of Valencia.
Ariño highlighted that the festival, that will be held from 5 to 15 of November, has not stopped growing during these eight years and has been consolidated in terms of public and in amount of received films. In this regard, the vice-principal for Culture and Equality pointed that in the 2013 edition the number of spectators was higher than 3 200, while in 2014 a total of 4 846 people went to La Cabina.
On the other hand, José Luis Moreno highlighted that the medium-lenght films are not only works of starting filmmakers, but also of renowned names such as Mike Leigh filmed in this format. His film, “Carrera de Obstáculos”, a frenetic and hilarious comedy, will be shown in the Official Section of the eighth edition of La Cabina.
This is also the case of the American actor and director James Franco who, together with Travis Mathews, directed and starred “Interior. Leather Bar”. The film reimagines the 40 censored and lost minutes of “A la Caza”, starred by Al Pacino in 1980.
La Cabina shows, like every year, the best international cinema between 30 and 60 minutes long in original version with subtitles. Again, the Filmoteca of Valencia and La Nau culture centre will be the main locations of this festival. This festival continues to be a worldwide reference because it is the only one with and international projection exclusively dedicated to the medium-length format.
With more than 334 received films, nearly 100 more than in the previous edition, the Official Section, that will be projected at the Filmoteca, grows with 25 competing films, one more than in 2014. The Festival extends its parallel sections and incorporates two new ones: “Amalgama”, dedicated to non-fiction and other languages films: creative documentary, experimental cinema, video art, video clip... and “Díptico Rock”, dedicated to medium-lenght films with a musical character. The placement of this two new sections will be the Cultural Centre La Nau.
Considering the success of the previous year, this edition maintains the “Panorama Francés” section, that will be celebrated at the French Institute of Valencia, where three director form the neighbour country present their film and participate in a later debate. Similarly, the section “Inèdits” still integrates the festival, where works mostly unknown of renowned directors will be showed in the Aula Magna of La Nau.
La Cabina offers a range of variated cinema, due to its origin as well as to its genre. The only premise for the medium-lenght films’ selection is to offer the be best of the international medium-lenght films, says Carlos Madrid. In addition, the director of La Cabina said that the mission of our festival is not only to show these works, but also to be the centre of the medium-lenght film market.
In its intention of bringing the public closer to the film’s creators, which will be showed those days at the Filmoteca, this edition will be attended by several of the film’s directors, who will present their films and will later participate in a short talk with the attendees.
