
The Faculty of Geography and History has organised a series of conferences in homage to historian Manuel Ardit, who died last December. The first session is scheduled this Wednesday, 7 May, at the Joan Fuster hall of the faculty. The researches of Manuel Ardit have been decisive and have led to a transformation of the way of understanding the Valencian past.
The first conference will be on Wednesday, at 18:00, by Telesforo Hernández Sempere, of the University of Valencia, entitled ‘The Last Research Project of Manuel Ardit: the House Bertrán de Lis and the Liberal Revolution’. Germán Ramírez Aledón will present the event. At 19:00, Armand Alberola Romà, of the University of Alacant, will talk about ‘Manuel Ardit and the Rural History studies in the Valencian Country’. It will be presented by Isabel Morant Deusa.
The conferences will continue on May 21, at 18:00, with the participation of José Manuel Pérez García, of the University of Valencia, who will reflect on ‘Demographer Ardit: his Transcendence and Root of a Deep Friendship’. It will be presented by Joan Serafí Bernat Martí. At 19:00, it will be the turn of Bernard Vincent, of l’École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales of Paris, who will talk about ‘Moorish, Economy and Society’. It will be presented by Rafael Benítez Sánchez-Blanco.
On June 5, the Paranimf at the Cultural Centre La Nau, at 19:00, is scheduled the conference by Josep Fontana (Pompeu Fabra University) entitled ‘Lords, Bourgeois People and Peasants: an Old Story’. The presenter will be Pedro Ruiz Torres.
Finally, at the Contemporary Cultural Centre, on June 11, at 18:00, it will take place the conference by Joan Francesc Mira entitled ‘Manuel Ardit, a Generation and a Country’. Presented by Vicent Olmos. Then, a round-table discussion will begin, moderated by Toni Gisbert, with the participation of Vicent Olmos, Enric Guinot, Antoni Furió, Carme García Monerris, Eva Serra, and Laura Guinot.
