CRUE’s Sectorial Commission for R&D has issued a statement expressing his opposition to ‘the massive cutbacks on R&D financing’ which are included on the national budget for 2013. This organ believes that research, as well as Education and Health, should be exempt from the cutbacks, because it is the responsible for future technological independence of the country. ‘It is not only about a scientific issue but about a first economic order issue’, claim the Principals.
The document explains: ‘Over the whole nation it is considered that nowadays research is an essential basis and an indispensable instrument for socioeconomic development. Therefore, the application of cutbacks on this field represents a brake on development, innovation and economic growth’.
The Principals remain that the investment levels on science were lower compared to the EU average even before the economic crisis began.
