The economic crisis and its consequences on the communication sector and the journalistic profession. This is the subject that the IV Digital Communication Conference has covered. It has been celebrated this Wednesday, 12 December, at the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communications of the University of Valencia.

The conference will primarily focus on showing the experience of some journalistic projects successfully developed via the Internet. These are new and original initiatives related to several aspects such as its thematic and approach, or its business model. These resources will be exposed in a round-table discussion at 16:00, which will be moderated by Guillermo López (University of Valencia), with the participation of some of the projects leaders, such as Ximo Clemente (valenciaplaza.com), Ángel Fernández (jotdown.es) and Vicent Molins (checheche.net).

Then, they will give an overall analysis on the impact of the economic crisis on the media. The case of Canal 9 and the ERE (Redundancy Proceedings File) that has already started to be implemented will receive particular attention on the round-table held at 18:00, which will be moderated by Manuel de la Fuente (University of Valencia). Other participants will be José Cervera (University Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid), Àlvar Peris (University of Valencia) and Sergi Pitarch (Union of Valencian Journalists).

The Digital Communication Conference is one of the most relevant annual forums to debate about the world of Valencian communication. Over the course of its three editions, the most renowned experts and professionals from all over Spain have participated in order to reflect on a sector that is being particularly affected as a result of the current crisis. As in the past editions, this fourth edition is organized by the Department of Language Theory and Communications Sciences of the University of Valencia. The event will take place at Saló de Graus of the Faculty of of Language Studies, Translation and Communications of the University of Valencia (Av. Blasco Ibáñez, 32).
