The Falla Universitat Vella-Plaça del Patriarca celebrates this year its twenty-fifth anniversary. The scaffold is entitled ‘25 years of…’, and joins the three faller artists that have excelled in the elaboration of the monument during this time. The monument of the Falles 2014 has a base of five to six metres, and more than five metres high.
As innovations compared to the last year, the commission suggests that they have recovered the most innovative sense, with regard to the scaffold, and that the falla wants to continue with this line. Thus, Emilio Miralles, one of the three artists participating in the workshop, where most of the falla has been made, in the town of Almácera, highlights the innovative and experimental sense of the decoration.
Lluís Mesa, president of the commission, states: “I feel a great joy to have been the founding president in 1989 and again to be this year. Moreover, I am lucky that the greater fallera is my daughter.
The Falla Universitat Vella-Plaça del Patriarca, which is declared as innovative with members “lovers of the culture and the language” and who have defended “the Valencian traditions”, has always had as a centre the role of the University within society. In fact, last year they built up a monument which the University claimed as depositary of reason. And for that they moved back the first scaffolds of university students, placed in the city of Valencia in the forties of the last century.
Currently the Falla Universitat Vella-Plaça del Patriarca consists of about a hundred people, children and adults, who come mostly from the neighbourhood in which the commission sets and which groups, between the members of the adult commission, former students of the University of Valencia. The infantile president is Antonio Rosendo Devesa; the infantile greater fallera, Beatriz Macián Montero; and the greater fallera, Olaya Mesa i Garcia.
