The future of the Spanish public university, under debate at La Nau

Juan Julià, vice-presidente of the Conference of Principals of Spanish Universities (CRUE) and principal of the Technical University of Valencia, and Francesc Xavier Grau i Vidal, principal of the University Rovira i Virgili and author of the report 'The Spanish public University in Spain. Challenges and Priorities in the framework of the crisis of the first tenth of the century', have participated in the panel discussion 'The Spanish public university and its future. An open debate in the context of the Wert report', which will has been held in the Aula Magna of the Cultural Centre La Nau of the University of Valencia.

This panel discussion, which is part of the programming of Claustre Obert, the space for debate created by the University of Valencia, through the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality, and newspaper 'El País', will be moderated by the principal of the Univerisy of València, Esteban Morcillo. Admission to the event is free until full capacity, and it can be seen online on the University IPTV (http://mediauni.uv.es/tv).

The report commissioned by Minister José Ignacio Wert to reform the Spanish university system raises a number of transformations on college campuses in all areas (academic reorganization titles, organizational structure of the university funding system ...), inviting social-open the debate on the role of public universities in a complex context of budget cuts and increasing tuition costs for students.

To address a debate of this magnitude and with the aim of preparing the panel next Monday, NAU XXI ( http://nauxxi.uv.es ) platform for debate and reflection on line of the Department for Culture and Equality, puts available to the public various documents and reports from national and international experts on the rationale for the public university, its challenges and risks in the current situation.

Thus this university think tank becomes a framework to query and analyze networked which can bring the universities in the future and encourage citizen participation.This space will also pick up the podcast's face discussion to be held on Monday, updated materials on the subject and the contributions that the public do to feed this subject, so the debate goes on line independently.
