
Dra. Guillermina Font, Professor of Toxicology, Department of Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Valencia, has been nominated this past 4 March President of the Section of Food Safety and Nutrition of the Spanish Agency for Consumer Affairs, Food Safety and Nutrition (AECOSAN).
The Scientific Committee is the consulting organism of Risk Assessment that assumes the functions of providing scientific advice to the AECOSAN, defines the scope of the research required for their functions and coordinates the work of the expert groups in the framework of the Agency activities. It is composed of two sections, Food Safety and Nutrition and also Consumer affairs.
The functions of the section on Food Security and Nutrition is to promote the safety at all stages of the food chain by completing activities relating to risk assessment, offering guarantees and objective information to consumers and traders of the Spanish food industry, as well as to plan, coordinate and develop strategies and actions to provide information, education and health promotion in the field of nutrition, particularly in the prevention of obesity.
