
The journalist Ignacio Escolar; María-Ángeles Durán, the first Spanish woman who obtained a chair in Sociology; and the draughtsman El Roto are some of the people who participate in the debates that will be held in the Cultural Centre La Nau of the University of Valencia this week. A week full of debates on topics as varied as the crisis of journalism, the commitment through illustration and the feminist thought. All the debates will be held in the Aula Magna of the historical building of the University.
The 19 November, from 18:30, the journalist and editor of ElDiario.es, Ignacio Escolar; the journalist and blogger, José Cervera, will participate in the round table entitled “Crisis del periodismo y ciudadanía digital” (“Journalism crisis and digital citizenship”). The debate, which will be broadcast live (mediauni.uv.es/tv) will be presented by Guillermo López, professor of Journalism at the University of Valencia and will be moderated by the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality Antonio Ariño, and is part of the Claustre Obert programming, the space for reflection created by the office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality of the University and EL PAÍS to address current issues. What happens to the media? Is media still necessary in its role of power control and service to society? To what extent the digital citizenship can displace professionals? These are some of the issues that will be addressed in this debate.
The 20 November at 19:00, Professor of Sociology María-Ángeles Durán will give the lecture “Yo cuido, tú cuidas… Nadie nos cuida” (“I look after, you look after… Nobody looks after us”). Honoris causa doctor by the University of Valencia and professor at the Spanish Research Council (CSIC), Durán stood out for claiming a fairer and more equal model between men and women. During the lecture, which will be presented by the professor in Sociology of the University of Valencia, Capitolina Díaz, it will be presented the book “Sociología y Género, una visión general del pensamiento feminista” (“Sociology and Gender, a general vision of the feminist thought”), which is coordinated by Capitolina Díaz and Sandra Dema (Editiorial Tecnos). The book is a useful text for rethinking the perspective of gender from the Social Sciences.
The 21 November, the draughtsman Andrés Rábago, known as “El Roto” will give the lecture “Un viaje de mil demonios (y un par de ángeles): sobre el compromiso creativo” (“A journey of a thousand demons (and a couple of angels): on creative engagement”). The talk, which will be presented and moderated by the Vice-Principal Antonio Ariño, will be held at 18:30 and can be followed in (mediauni.uv.es/tv).
The debate, which is part of the Claustre Obert programming, is an invitation to reflect on the occasion of the major exhibition OPS / El Roto / Rábago. “Un viaje de mil demonios (y un par de ángeles), which can be seen at La Nau until 12 January. The three biggest rooms of the historical building of the University of Valencia (Sala Acadèmica, Thesaurus and Martínez Guerricabeitia) comprise the widest retrospective that has ever been done to the figure of ‘El Roto’ and all its sibling identities, OPS and Andrés Rábago. An extensive exhibition of one of the currently most important satirical draughtsman.

In addition, discussions about Fallas and climate change
But besides these debates, the programming of Fòrum de Debats of the office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality the following week also includes several events. The 18 November, at 19:00, it will be presented the campaign “Voces contra el Cambio climático” (“Voices against the climate change”), promoted by the environmental association AMA. In the Event, which will take place at the Aulas Seminarios, they will participate the journalist and author of the blog “Usted de no se lo cree” Ferran Puig and the members of the AMA: Lucia Pla, Luis Caparrós and Héctor García.
From Tuesday and during two days a classic comes back, the discussions on Fallas, in La Nau, organised by the Fòrum de Debats and the Associació d’Estudis Fallers (ADEF), that propose this year to reflect on the organisational model of the Fallas party: whether to maintain the current hierarchical model and dependent on political power or if it is possible to go for other organisational systems, more open to the participation of the falleros and less dependent on the local political power.
The ninth edition, with the slogan, “La Gobernanza de las Fallas” (“The Governance of the Fallas”), will be held the 19 and 20 November 2013, at 19:00, and count with the collaboration of the Gremio Artesano de Artistas Falleros (Artisan Fallas Artists Union), the Interagrupación de Fallas de Valencia, the Unión de Agrupaciones de Fallas Cap I Casal (Groups of Fallas Union of Cap i Casal), the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and the Museu Valencià d’Etnologia.
The first discussion, which will be held the 19 November, will be on the Festivity and the participation in the Fallas territory and will be moderated by the journalist Montse Català and will count with the participation of José Manuel Benet (former president of the Junta Local Fallera of Xàtiva), Ferran Martínez (director of the Falla Cronista Beguer and former member of the Junta Local Fallera of Torrent), Pasqual Molina (president of the Asociación Cultural Premio Iaraní of Gandia) and Josep Nos (president of the Federación de Fallas of Burriana).
With the generic title “La administración de la fiesta en el Cap i Casal” (“The administration of the festivity in the Cap i Casal”), the second discussion, which will be held the 20 November, will be moderated by the journalist Daniel Borrás and the participations of José Luis Font Barona (fallero and lawyer), José Vicente Marco (member of the Falla Santa María Micaela-Martín el Humano), Lluís Mesa (president of the Falla Universidad Vieja and cultural manager) and Sofía Parra (president of the Falla San Vicente de Paul-Diputada Clara Campoamor).
To end the week, the 21 November, the Aulas Seminario host the debate “¿Qué es la espiritualidad? La inteligencia espiritual, fuente de madurez y de plenitud (What is Spirituality? Spiritual intelligence, source of maturity and fulfillment, by the theologian and psychotherapist Enrique Martínez Lozano and presented by the theologian and psychotherapist Cristina Rodríguez Calle (Xarxa Cristiana).
