José Furtado Valle, researcher of IFIC, receives the Medal of the Mexican society of Physics

The scientist José W. Furtado Valle, has received the Medal for Particles Division and Areas of the Mexican society of Physics. This is one of the theoretical physicist in Spain with highest impact in the field of particle physics. Also, the Medal recognises the contribution of this researcher from Brazil to the development of particle physics in Mexico, as well as the work done in IFIC for the promotion of young researchers all over the world in the last twenty-five years.

José Wagner Furtado Valle (1953) is the first Spanish researcher, since 1999, to receive this honour that beforehand had been given to renowned researchers such as Leon Lederman and James Cronin who had also received the Nobel Prize. In addition to the research relevance, this prize recognises his links with the Mexican scientific community in physics for twenty years, having contributed to the training of a new generation of young Scientifics.

“It is the first recognition that I receive from the Latin American community of Physics”, José Valle said at the University of Colima where the biennial of the Mexican Society of Physics was celebrated. The Spanish-Brazilian researcher is also distinguished for his Humboldt Reasearch Award in the investigation of Particles Physics (2002) and Iberdrola Award for Science and Technology in Theoretical Physics (1999), and he hopes that this Medal “contributes to the interchange of young scientists between Spain and Mexico”.

“One of the characteristics of our investigation group is that in Valencia’s IFIC, along twenty-five years, we have trained around forty-five young researchers from all over the world in different levels”, the researcher emphasised. José Valle leads the group of Astroparticle Physics and Atlas of Energies (AHEP) in IFIC, and has been responsible of the theoretical division of this Institute, pioneer in Spain in the investigation of particles physics. Furtado Valle is one of the Spanish theoretical physicist with highest impact in the field of particle physics and fields, whose scientific articles count on more citations all over the world.
