
The Spanish Standards and Certification Association (AENOR) has granted the AR-0006/2012 AENOR certification for Universal Accessibility to Universitat de València’s María Moliner Library at Tarongers Campus. The library, audited by AENOR’s experts, meets the requirements established by UNE 170001:2007 standard (Universal Accessibility’s Management System).
The audit has mainly been focused on the facilities and entrances to both the premises and the building. It has particularly been analyzed the removal of architectural obstacles, users’ assistance points, the drawing up of a self-protection plan, special signs for people with visual disabilities, and the existence of support products for people with some disability or for people not suffering any.
Moreover, the public and private transportation systems to reach the library have been assessed, as well as the movements inside the facilities, the building and parking for disabled people.
Led by the Unit for the Integration of People with Disabilities, different servicies of the university have also taken part in this process, which has allowed to gain the certification. This move is framed under the programme Campus Sostenible of Universitat de València. It has been financed by the Spanish Ministry for Education, Culture and Sport through the Universal Accessibility and Integration programme of VLC/CAMPUS València, International Campus of Excellence.
