
The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Valencia hosts from tomorrow Wednesday February 13 until Friday, the 'Conference on Research 2012/2013', an event organized by medical students that aims to be a meeting point between science, biomedical research and critical thinking. There will be two days devoted to research, and a last day reserved for popularizing science. Some of the topics covered include cancer molecular imaging, neurobiology and rare diseases.
Panel discussions, conferences and oral communications as well as the 2nd edition of Innovative Opinion Awards or those of the Scientific Jury to the best oral communications and posters are some of the events planned during the conference. Professors, popular science experts, students and researchers will take part along with student interns and collaborators, covering topics such as stem cell research and cell therapy, or popular science.
Among the participants are Luis Martí Bonmatí, Professor of Radiology and Physical Medicine and Director of the Medical Imaging Clinic Area of University and Polytechnic Hospital La Fe, or Isabel Fariñas, Professor of Cell Biology and coordinator of a research group of the Ministry of Health on neurodegenerative diseases.Also participating are José Vicente Castell Ripoll, Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and general and scientific director of the Institute for Health Research La Fe; or Carlos Hermenegildo Caudevilla, Professor of Physiology and coordinator of the Central Unit of Medical Research.
The opening ceremony on Wednesday, will be attended by, among others, the Vice-Principal for Research and Science Policy of the University, Pedro Carrasco, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University, Federico Pallardó, and general director of the Clinical Research Foundation of Valencia (INCLIVA), Rafael Carmena Rodriguez.

The organizing student group define themselves as "a group of students and researchers from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry together to prepare a conference focused on scientific participation, research and popular science."The organizing committee consists of Ana Rosa Alvarez Rubio, Carlos Bea Serrano, Maria Camarena, Elena Collado Lledó, Francesc Escrihuela Vidal, Víctor García Bustos, Víctor Marcos Garcés, Luis Monrós Aparici, Javier Navarrete Navarro, Elvira Parafita Losada, Guillem Policarpo Torres, Romá Mateo and José Carlos Vaqué Alcazar.
