One of the founders of 'string theory' offers a conference on Wednesday at the IFIC

Gabiele Veneziano.

Italian physicist Gabriele Veneziano, a researcher at the Collège de France in Paris and one of the pioneers of string theory, gives a lecture in the Auditorium of the Edifici de Capçalera of the Science Park on Wednesday, 17 April, at 12:30 hours, invited by the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC).

Veneziano (Florence, 1942) graduated in Theoretical Physics under the direction of Raoul Gatto. His early years were spent researching at MIT and CERN, institution which he joined in 1976 and where he spent 30 years. Currently he holds the Chair of Elementary Particles, Gravitation and Cosmology at the Collège de France in Paris.

The Italian physicist was the first to formulate the rudiments of string theory, a modern physics model that assumes that the particles that make up the matter that we see are actually 'vibrations' of a wider object. Veneziano also proposed a model which observes for the first time pre-Big Bang scenarios.
