Singer Ana Curra will talk about the link between punk and feminism in the Centre Cultural La Nau, tomorrow Thursday 22 October. The talk will take place at 19:00, in the Aulas Seminario of the buiding and it is organised as a talk coordinated by the journalist Rafa Cervera.
The meeting with Ana Curra is included in the programme of Fòrum de Debats of the Universitat de València and with the collaboration of the music information journal ‘Efe Eme’.
Ana Curra is an artist whose musical beginnings are bonded to punk, a movement of utmost importance that gives visibility to women in the context of rock and pop music. Punk was a movement that favoured the appearance of a series of women like Patti Smith, Siouxsie, Poly Styrene, Chrissie Hynde, Debbie Harry and many more who opened the doors for those women who later arrived to music, while at the same time they became visible icons from the communication means, helping to bring down the old clichés and sexist prejudices.
In Spain, Ana Curra, was part of that generation, as she was part of bands like Alaska y los Pegamoides, Parálisis Permanente and Seres Vacíos. Recent works like ‘Digital 21 vs. Ana Curra’ and the live review of the CD ‘El acto’, originally recorded by Parálisis Permanente reveal the validity of her role as pioneer and rule-breaking.
