Universitat de València has organized a tribute to Alfons Cucó to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his death. Today, October 26, an institutional event is taking place in the Office of the Principal’s main hall (Blasco Ibáñez, 13) at 12:00. The Principal along with other people like Joan Francesc Mira, who is writer, anthropologist, and sociologist, and Ramón Villares, full professor of contemporary history in Santiago de Compostela, are going to take part.
Villares is giving the lecture titled ‘Relatos del nuevo nacionalismo de posguerra. Paralelismos y divergencias’.
Last October 24, Fòrum de Debats and the platform known as Valencians pel Canvi have organized a round table titled ‘Alfons Cucó: País Valencià. Espanya, Europa.’ Ramón Lapiedra, full professor of physics and former chairman of Valencians pel Canvi, Josepa Cucó, full professor of social anthropology, Teresa Carnero, full professor of contemporary history, and Vicent Soler, Dean of the economy school, made up the table.
Yesterday, October 25, the books titled Temps d’incertituds: assaigs sobre federalisme i la diversitat nacional by Alain Gagnon and La independencia de Escocia by Michael Keating were presented. Alain Gagnon from Université de Québec in Canada, Pablo Oñate from Universitat de València, and Joan Romero from the same institution are taking part in the event. Vicent Soler chaired it.
Alfons Cucó was born in Valencia in 1941 and died in 2002. He studied the former degree of philosophy and literature at Universitat de València between 1958 and 1964 and got his PhD in 1970. He had a strong political vocation and he was one of the founders of the Valencian socialist party in 1962, which became the Valencian Country’s socialist party in 1968. He was chosen senator for the district of Valencia for five legislatures.
He has written many books and paper focused on the Valencian nationalism, social unease and nationalist movements in the former territories of the Soviet Union. Among this books there are: El valencianisme polític, 1874-1936, Republicans i camperols revoltats, País i estat: la qüestió valenciana, El valor de la nació, Els confins d’Europa, and Roig i blau: la transició democràtica valenciana.
