The Universitat de València invests tomorrow Tuesday philosopher Amelia Valcárcel as ‘honoris causa’ doctor

The Universitat de València invests next Tuesday, 8 March, the philosopher Amelia Valcárcel as doctor ‘honoris causa’ of the institution. The event will start at 12:00 in the Paranimf of the historic building of La Nau. During the event there will be participating the new doctor; the principal, Esteban Morcillo; and the full university professor Neus Campillo, who will read the ‘laudatio’. The session will be broadcasted live via MediaUni.

Amelia Valcárcel Bernaldo de Quirós (Madrid, 1950) is full university professor of Moral Philosophy and Politics in the National Distance Education University (UNED), member of the Council of State, vice-president of the  Real Patronato del Museo del Prado and member of the Royal Board of the Museo del Prado and member of the Royal Board of the Biblioteca Nacional and of the Advisory Board of the Carolina Foundation.

Doctor in Philosophy from the University of Zaragoza, she was full university professor of this university, counsellor of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth of Asturias.

Author of a comprehensive philosophic work, her contribution to make feminism a political theory stands out, which deals with, among others, topics such as sex as a normative construction, the problem of power, multiculturalism and the concept of equality in a global context.

Finalist of the National Essay Award in 1989 and 1994, she has been recognised as ‘honoris causa’ doctor by the University of Veracruz (México), the Medal for the Promotion of the Values of Equality of the Spanish Government and the Silver Medal of Asturias.
