On Friday, Universitat de València will give the extraordinary doctorate awards for the year 2013/2014 The session was celebrated at the Paranimf of the historical building of La Nau. Principal Esteban Morcillo talked about the need of “a great pact, a wide social and political agreement for education and University”.

Esteban Morcillo encouraged the winning doctors to keep “feeding curiosity and hope that gave motivation for the writing of the doctoral thesis and the spirit of investigation of new knowledge”. He asked them to commit themselves with social value of science as the expression of the European social model based on an intelligent, sustainable and inclusive growing.
On the other hand, he reminded that Universitat de València has many municipal origins, founded more that five centuries ago by the Jurats de la Ciutat with a clear conscience of the role that knowledge is applied in progress and comfort.
Therefore, regarding the present crisis, the principal demanded them to know how to organize the fiscal adjustment policies hierarchically “not to reduce the investment, which does not mean is an expense , in the set of the educational system and in the research and innovation as motors of progress and future, recognising at Universitat as one of the most important agents of change in the heart of our society”.
