The University of Valencia, the Genomic Systems Foundation and the company Genomic Systems S.L. have signed an agreement for the creation of the Chair for Genomic Systems, a project that responds to the objectives and interests in educational, scientific and technological and cultural fields of the three entities. With this agreement, the Chair will perform a dozen scientific seminars about the advances on the research on rare diseases.
The agreement was signed by the Principal Esteban Morcillo; the president of the foundation, Félix Prieto; and the manager of Genomic Systems, Lorena Saus. These have been accompanied by the Vice-Principal for Institutional Relations and Communication, Silvia Barona; the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Federico Pallardó; as well as other representative members of the signatory entities.
On the one hand, the purposes of the Genomic Systems Foundation are to promote researching projects to study the genetic alterations and the identification of genes involved in rare diseases. In this sense, the University of Valencia has been interested in working with the foundation on the development and dissemination of knowledge on this field through the performance of formative, cultural and university extension programmes, as well as consultancy and support programmes, which are important to its development.
On the other hand, the entity Genomic Systems pursues the creation of services and products that contribute to the increase of the diagnostic supply of hereditary diseases and to improve the quality of life of people with this type of diseases.
For all these reasons, the Chair for Genomic Systems will organize scientific-business seminars with informative and educational purposes, sponsor research on this field, and will also announce academic awards to recognize the successes of this scientific activity.
In addition, different activities will be promoted; formative activities, such as pre-doctoral and post-doctoral grants, awards for Degree-final Dissertation, lectures and conferences, among others; researching activities, such as doctoral thesis and the promotion of national and international experts meeting; and dissemination activities, such as the preparation of works that transfer the results of the research, the organization of conferences and the empowerment of publications about current issues of concern.
