The University launches the Environmental Volunteer Program

The University of Valencia has launched the Environmental Volunteer program, aimed at all students, and which will run until May 2014. Students interested in getting involved in this extracurricular activity and learn more about issues related to saving energy and resources, protection of the natural environment, waste management, fair trade and responsible consumption, among others, have until 14 October next to sign up via e-mail at  voluntariat@uv.es

The Environmental Volunteering is organized by the Delegation for Students , the Information and Promotion Service (SEDI) and the Health and Safety and Environment Service under the Sustainable Campus, promoted by the office of the Vice-Principal for Sustainability, Campus and Planning. And its Vice-Principal, Clara Martinez, believes that this initiative is "fundamental to the development of students' education and promotion of sustainability values ​​of the entire university community, since it incorporates social and environmental responsibility."
 
This is the second year that the Environmental Volunteering of the Sustainable Campus is launched the, as the University of Valencia was a pioneer in this type of programs about environmental involvement of students in the mid-eighties. 
 
ENVIRONMENTAL VOLUNTEERS IN THE THREE CAMPUSES  
During the past year, a total of 74 students were part of the Environmental Volunteering and, for the first time, it was implemented in the three campuses of the University of Valencia, with higher rates of participation in Blasco Ibanez and Tarongers. Among the most noted activities is the information campaign on residues, which also allowed to visit the processing plant of the Hornillos, where the residues collected at grey containers in Valencia are classified and recovered. Also, the activity dedicated to energy saving, since it included the placement on all campuses of data points about the CO2 footprint, which is directed to calculate the students' emissions impact, as well as knowing the cogeneration station of the University of Valencia to the campus of Tarongers.
