The senate of the University of Valencia was ratified this Thursday, 7 February, in the text adopted last year to reform the regulation. The Generalitat (the government in Valencia) had returned the text to the academic institution after aknowledging a nonbinding report of the Consell Jurídic, which proposed changes in six articles and two additional provisions. The University maintains the text as it was passed, and it will submit to the Generalitat to publish it unchanged.
The amendments proposed by the Generalitat are lower. Most of them refer to the representation in various bodies of research trainees, medical personnel and certain affiliated research scholars. It was also questioned the regulation by regulation, and not all within the statute, the competition system of teachers. The university senate voted unanimously their text: 183 in favor, none against and no abstentions.
The reform of the statute has an eminent technical nature, as reiterated by the general secretary of the University, María José Añón, and was required under the rules coming into force of senior post. But it has been used to make other improvements, such as electoral rules that increase legal certainty and simplify processes.
The office of the general secretary recalled the constitutional principle of university autonomy, to defend the retention of the text as approved by the senate. The legal services of the University and the statute committee has ruled that the amendment passed in the academic institution fully complies with the law.
The chairman of the statute committee, Ricardo Juan, explained that the items disputed by the Government are not new, compared to the current text, but they only update the names of certain university groups, such as changing the word 'trainee' for Staff Researcher.
The reform of the statute was required under the approval of various laws. Among others, of the LOMLOU, of 12 April 2007 by means of which the LOU was modified, of 21 December 2001. The LOMLOU itself emphasized this need and granted a three-year-period for universities to assail the activity in question.
Secondly, it was necessary to review certain articles of the statute after the approval of the Estatuto Básico del Empleado Público (12 April 2007). It also has adapted the basic rule of the University to the Organic Law 3/2007 of 22 March for effective equality of women and men. And in the same process the entry into force of the Law 2/2011, of March 4, of Sustainable Economics is derived. There are also certain modifications that are not front-knotted to the head of the abovementioned legislative reforms, but to the enactment of general and certain provisions of the University itself. In particular, the adoption of the Statute of the University Student; the Regulation of selection of teaching and research staff, or the Staff Training Research Statute at the University. The Senate of the University of Valencia had already approved the reform in March 2012, but the Government has not yet published the decree that will allow its enter into force.

Shift words
In the open shift interventions, many student representatives have spoken to pose different reviews and recommendations. Many of them have agreed to criticize the policy of cuts in education. And have offered specific details of the consequences: from classrooms abandonment of students who could not afford the fees to the deterioration of the facilities of some centers of the University.
It has also been called for greater involvement of the University, officially, in social movements such as the groups fighting for a fair law of mortgage and evictions. It has also been demanded a statement against political corruption cases. A student has asked not to extend the use of electronic systems to prevent copying in exams, and another student has required measures to achieve a balance of representation in the organs of the different university estates (faculty, students and staff). It has also been called for a deepening of gender equality policies or for the internationalization of studies not to harm the roots of the cultural institution Valencia.
