The University of Valencia ranks first in Spain for agricultural sciences and fourth in the country, according to the Best Global Universities ranking compiled by the ‘U.S. News & World Report’ magazine on 1,000 universities across 57 countries. This academic institution is likewise ranked 257th in the world.
The University of Valencia (UV) is ahead of others like the Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona, the Complutense of Madrid and the University of Granada. As for disciplines, the UV is second in Spain for chemistry, third for physics and fifth for natural sciences.
In comparative terms, the University of Valencia has moved one place forward from 2015 to 2016 in agricultural sciences in the global ranking (from the 38th to the 37th place).
The ranking aims to respond to the growing demand of American students who plan to enrol in universities outside their country. In October 2015 Best Global released its second 2016 edition, specifically focused on research and on the reputation of undergraduate and graduate programmes. Out of the 1,000 universities from around the world participating in the ranking, only 750 are ranked.
Regarding ranking methodology, the factors that influence the final position are: global research reputation (12.5%); regional research reputation (12.5%); publications (10%); books (2.5%); conferences (2.5%); normalized citation impact (10%); total citations (7.5%); number of publications that are among the 10% most cited (12.5%); percentage of total publications that are among the 10% most cited (10%); international collaboration (10%); number of PhDs awarded (5%), and number of PhDs awarded per academic staff member (5%).
