The UV is the second European university with the largest number of Erasmus students welcomed, according to the report published this Friday by the European Commission. The data shows that Spain continues being the country, in the academic year 2012-2013, with the highest participation of Erasmus students, both incoming and outgoing.
More than 1,700 European students carried out their studies at the university within the Erasmus programme of the given academic year. Germany, Italy, France and the United Kingdom are, in that order, the countries with the largest number of incoming students.
On the other hand, the University ranks the fifth in the sending of students within the Erasmus programme. The most solicited destinations by UV students are, in this order, United Kingdom, Germany, France and Italy. More than 1,500 students have carried out their periods of study or work placements in a European country.
The UV welcomed last January an honorary recognition to the “Institucion Erasmus 2013” (2013 Erasmus Institution) awarded by the Autonomous Organization of European Educative Programmes (OAPEE), responsible for processing the Erasmus programme in Spain.
The ERASMUS programme originated in 1987 (European Region Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) in order to foster the exchange of students in the European universities. The UV has participated since the very first year the Erasmus programme originated and more than 40.000 UV students- including both incoming and outgoing students have taken part in this programme.
With the approval of the Erasmus+ programme by the European Union, which will be applied in the academic year 2014-2015, the UV will continue reinforcing the participation of students in the Erasmus programme. To do so, the UV will continue supporting its students with an own system of grants and will strengthen the participation of the institution in other exchange modalities of the programme, such as work placements mobility for students or Erasmus mobility for staff.
