The UV and the UPV close the 2014 edition of the Campus Inclusivo-Campus sin Límites more than a twentieth of activities

A sum of 25 activities, academic and leisure ones, for nine days, from 21 to 29 July, have conformed the programme “Campus Inclusivo-Campus sin Límites 2014” (Inclusive Campus- Non-limited Campus in 2014), organized by the UV and the UPV, inside VLC/CAMPUS, Valencia International Campus of Excellence and hold the participation of a twentieth of secondary education youngsters with and without functional diversity.

This year, twenty students of secondary education, upper secondary education and intermediate vocational training courses from Valencia, Barcelona, Murcia and Granada, with different typologies of disability and some of them diagnosed with NANE (Specifical Needings of Learning). The object has been to offer them the possibility to keep in touch with the offer of the resources available in both public universities of Valencia.

During these days they have visited the two university campus and so their services, clinics and institutes. Among the undertaken activities, the youngsters practiced adapted sports, such as, paddle tennis, archery or ping-pong, carried out radio and TV workshops or laughter therapy, walked around the historical city centre, made excursions to the Albufera Lake and cultural visits to museums. They have taken part in talks and other workshops in which the importance of vocational decision facing the choice of studies, university degrees and their previous requirements in cases of success of disabled people and job opportunities in the current labour market.

This programme’s internationality was to achieve a real university environment which helps them to define their future projection.

On the other hand, the participants had access to the personal and technological resources offered by both universities. They have also been accompanied by the “ Unitat per a la Integració de Persones amb Discapacitat” ( Integration Unit for Disabled People), within the General Foundation of the UV and of the UPV foundation CEDAT (Centre for the Development of Technology and Support for the Lesser-abled). The programme had, as well, the support of the OPEX (Excellence Policies Office) of the UV.

Closing event
The Universitat Politecnica of Valencia has hosted this Tuesday the closing event of the Campus, Vice-principal of Social Responsibility and Cooperation of the UPV, , Rosa Puchades; manager of the General Foundation of the UV, Cristóbal Suria; director of the Unitat per a la Integració de Persones amb Discapacitat, Celeste Aaensi; and Isabel Andreu, on behalf of the CEDAT Foundation (Centre for the Development of Technology and Support for the Lesser-abled).

Cristobal Suria defined this Campus as “a excellent opportunity to know the two public universities of the city of Valencia”. Likewise, was grateful for the work of the technical teams of both universities and he has defended the continuity of this yearly call.

Celeste Asensi, by her part, recalled that the main goal of this meeting is motivating the participants to study at the university. “Both universities are accessible and have the necessary resources to offer attention to the functional diversity and your stay here is the most normalised possible. I know that we have met the goals” he has claimed.

Isabel Andreu encouraged the students to carry on with their higher education, and the vice-principal Rosa Puchades has referred to the Campus as an opportunity to “discover the university family and new options for the future”. “This programme aims to provide the promotion of equal opportunities and avoiding the dropping out of school of functional diversity students in any of their forms” she manifested. Likewise, she highlighter the exceptional and pioneer nature of this year’s meeting, given that disabled and non-disabled students have taken part in this meeting and this has been useful “to uplift both sides and to confirm that obstacles may be overcame”.

The organization of the programme “Campus Inclusivo- Campus sin Limites” (Inclusive Cmpus- Without Limits Campus), free for the chosen students, it is possible thanks to the agreement between the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of the Universidad.es Foundation, the ONCE Foundation (the Spanish national organization for the blind), and the RESPOL Foundation (A Spanish oil company).

The main goal is increasing the active presence of people with functional diversity who, due to their individual characteristics, may limit their inclusion in Spanish universities. Moreover, this project supposes a way of increasing awareness for the rest of participants and for the university community generally.
