Universitat de València’s Rector Peset hall of residence hosted yesterday, June 7th, the exhibition ‘Peix (2002-2012)’ by Antoni Domènech. The event started at 20:00 in Sala de la Muralla (Plaza del Forn de Sant Nicolau, 4. Valencia).

This exhibition ends a cycle initiated in 2002 and titled ‘Històries naturals’, which is an idea of the same author where he invites other artists, Manuel Sáez and Koen Broucke, to reflect on the representation of animals. Not from the point of view of their biology but from the point of view of their forms and poetics.

The second phase of this event was an exhibition in Antwerp titled ‘O dierbaar Antwerpen’, which had place from April 22nd to August 5th, 2007. The exhibition was about animal representation, and had works by Marco Jacobs, Koen Broucke and Léon Spilliaert. It also showed a selection of books dated from XVI to XX centuries with illustrations of animals.

On both occasions, Antoni Domènech contributed with wooden carvings inspired by the fish. ‘Peixmenut’ has been the last exhibition before the one which closes the cycle. It had place in Valencian, at La Linterna, in 2009, and it was an individual showing of watercolours made taking some of the little wooden carvings as models.

‘Peix (2002-2012)’ arises as a non-finished inventory, showing many possible approaches to the fish. On the occasion of this exhibition a duplicate of two of the works has been made at Alicia Navarro’s studio.
