We are launching the new software portal, integrated into the SIUV website itself, with the aim of providing more dynamic information maintenance, improved usability features, and greater clarity for users.
Through this portal, access is provided to the server that manages the distribution of software usage licenses acquired centrally by the Universitat de València.
The services supported by this server include: assignment of usage licenses, information about license numbers or how to obtain them, and direct software download or information on where to download it.
The users authorized to use this software are those who maintain an active relationship with the University, including: enrolled students, employed academic and research staff (PDI), and employed technical, management and administrative staff (PTGAS).
The IT Service of the Universitat de València (SIUV) is responsible for managing the acquisition of software licenses under two models:
Type 1 licenses: general use across the entire University
These are tools that are widely and commonly used within the institution, such as SPSS, ADOBE or Microsoft 365, which are acquired centrally to ensure availability and optimize costs.
Type 2 licenses: specific use in certain centres
These are managed when a centre requests and justifies that specific software is required for its teaching activities (for example, ChemOffice or ArcGIS). In this case, the cost is borne by the centre itself, as the software is not intended for general use across the University.
What happens with individual requests from teaching staff?
The SIUV does not manage individual requests due to the logical dispersion of preferences and needs.
If a lecturer considers that a particular software is necessary for their centre or for the University as a whole, the appropriate procedure is:
-
Submit the proposal to the relevant centre.
-
The centre analyses and justifies the need.
-
Where appropriate, the centre forwards it to the SIUV for acquisition as a Type 2 license, or shares it with other centres for a joint request as a Type 1 license.
This model guarantees efficiency, transparency and resource optimization, avoiding duplication and ensuring that investments in software respond to real and agreed needs.
