'Terra Nullius' by Andreu Esteban
Face-to-face

Co-organised by the Valencian Jounalists Union and the Rector Peset Residence Hal, the exhibition will be open until 8 February 2026.

A changing scenery and an identity redifining itself

With a photographic sight comnining photojournalism and contemporary visual languages, Andreu Esteban addresses a debate affecting directly the Valencian territory: the co-existence between the needed advancement of renewable energies and the defence of local lifestyles.

The author explains the interest for this topic comes from his own vital experience: 'Growing up between the countryside and the city lead me to pay attention to the rural worls and the primary sector as an axis for my personal projects. The massive emergence of renewable energy macroprojects, including my own town, made me research on a problem I deem invisible'.

Lidón Forés, the project curator, wantes to value the professional evolution of the photojournalist during his scholarship: 'For eight months, Andreu has learnt how to build a photographic tale with surprising maturity. He knows how to articulate his own sight in record time, and I'm sure he will grow even further.

Regarding the contents of 'Terra Nullius', Forés mentions the importance of opening public debates on urgen territory matters: 'This topic seemed necessary. "Terra Nullius" is a critic proposal inviting to reflection on the consequences of a explotation model reconfiguration the scenery and life of towns'.

The 'Fragments' project is promoted by the Valencian Journalists Union and has become a reference for photoessay and visual memory, with five edition that have supported creators related to the País Valencià reality. The goal is to deepen the bonds between photjournalism, visual culture and critical thinking to produce socially impactful pieces.
