The contribution of university students to finance their studies has been the subject of debate for years. Now, the debate has been reopened because of the budgetary problems that many universities face due to financial cuts.
This has also happened in most European countries. The pressure to increase the price of tuition fees has been present, especially in Britain. Spain does not stay on the sidelines. The decree on urgent measures to rationalise public spending in education approved last April 2012 is the confirmation of the position that the government of Spain has taken in the debate.
All this and other reasons can be read in the report presented by the Observatorio del Sistema Universitario in June in Barcelona. Its coordinator, Vera Sacristán, Professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, will be on Wednesday 17 October at La Nau.
