The Confucius Institute is an institution created with the purpose of promoting the development of the Chinese teaching and cultures. Headquartered in Beijing, this organization is present in the five continents withmore than 500 centres. There are in Spain six headquarters situated in  Madrid, Universitat de València, University of  Granada, University of Zaragoza, University of Castilla-La Mancha, Barcelona, University of León and University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Confucius Institute in Valencia was founded in 2007, under the direction of Vicente Andreu and the collaboration between the National Office of the Chinese Teaching as Foreign Language (Hanban) and the Universitat de València, linked with the Northeast China Normal University.

With the sixth anniversary in 2013, a new modern headquarters was founded in Tarongers Campus (Calle Serpis 29) supplementary to the situated in Faculty of Philology (Av. Blasco Ibáñez 32), with a complete equipment to harbour new rooms and a large library of Chinese language books and didactic material, the most complete of the Valencian Community.

Academic offers

The Confucius Institute of the UV covers the increasing demand of knowledge about the Chinese language and culture that our society claims nowadays. You can carry out Chinese classes for all levels, since basic to advanced. 

Moreover, it offers scholarships to study at China since a month, a four-month period, a year or the possibility to study a master degree or doctorate studies in the counterpart of Northeast China Normal University.

It is the only centre, in the Valencian Community, official examiner of the HSK  Chinese language tests (adults) and YTC tests (children and young people), as well as oral levels (HSKK).

From its foundation, the Confucius Institute of Universitat de València has collaborated and organised many expositions, for example, El Llibre i el Maó (The Book and the Mao), as well as the dedicated to the artists Maleonn, Luís Baylón, Judas Arrieta, Marta Soul, Amy Chang, Adan Liu, He chong Yue, Marisa Casalduero, Cai Yinlong, Aurelia Villalba or Rafa Tanaka Monzó, among other expositions. Among its collaborations it is necessary to mention Caligrafías de la enfermedad (Calligraphies of the disease) organised by the Institute of Medicine and Science History López Piñero or Modern Chinese Calligraphy: Works of Gu Gan and Pu Lieping in IVAM (Modern Art of Valencia Institute).

It also develops different cultural activities related to Chinese culture:  celebrations such as the Chinese New Year, the Mid-Autumn Festival; Meeting with writers, dramatists, scientists, film series, recitations, traditional Chinese dances, concerts, conferences, poetry readings, Chinese calligraphy demonstrations, Wushu, Tai Ji Quan or activities focused on children.

Confucius Institute Magazine

One of the greatest proposals is the bimonthly bilingual Spanish-Chinese magazine Instituto Confucio (Confucius Institute),  awarded wit the Culture Prize of the 3th Edition of Cope Prizes Valencia in 2014. The Confucius Institute of the Universitat de València edits and publishes the only magazine of the Institution for the Spanish-speaking world with cultural contents, articles about different regions in China, methods for the learning of the Chinese language, etc.  This publication and its version in other languages are available in electronic format and, for mobile phones, in Apple support (Iphone-Ipad) and Android thanks to the application designed by the Confucius Institute of Universitat de València. This magazine shows how the Chinese culture has the capacity to grow, to change and to be renewed on the bases of the self-reflection and the intercultural dialog.
