What is the Chinese Bridge competition?

The Chinese Bridge competition is a contest whose main objective is to increase the dissemination of Mandarin Chinese, awaken the interest for the teaching of Confucius language worldwide among students and consolidate the knowledge of Chinese language and culture. In this contest, the students can show their level of Chinese, as well as the knowledge of Chinese culture, etc. The contestants will participate at the beginning in the local phase, the winners will enter the final phase and the finalists of national phase will enter world phase, which will take place in China.

This contest, promoted by the Chinese International Education Foundation, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Spain, together with the Confucius Institutes, calls for this year the celebration of the 23nd Chinese Bridge World Contest and 17th Contest for Secondary Students.

The local phase of the Chinese Bridge Competition will take place on Saturday, 27 April 2024 at the Confucius Institute University of València.

What does the contest consist of?

For high school students (ESO - Bachillerato) and University students.

The contest is divided into three parts:

-First part. Speech in Chinese on the topic of the contest "LEARNING CHINESE, CREATING A BRIGHTER FUTURE" “携手汉语筑梦未来” (ESO and Bachillerato students) / "ONE WORLD, ONE FAMILY" "天下一家" (university students), related to the Chinese language and / or culture. It should last a maximum of 2 minutes and no text can be read. Score: 5 points.

-Second part. Round of 4 questions about Chinese culture and language. Score: 2 points (0.5 each question).

-Third part. Performance of Chinese art and culture (music, singing, dance, poetry, calligraphy, martial arts, painting, etc.). Approximately 3-5 minutes. Score: 3 points.

For amateurs of any age, only the local phase

They will be able to participate, only in the local phase, with an artistic performance (2-3 minutes). Participation may be individual or in a group. The performance must be related to Chinese culture.

Amateurs and children

Students of Secondary School and high School level

University Students

Participants, from 6 years of age, who only participate in the local phase. That is, with an artistic performance.

From 12 to 18 years of age (born between July 1, 2006 and June 30, 2012).

From 18 to 30 years of age (born between July 1, 1994 and June 30, 2006). Essential requirement to be enrolled in a university.

Inscription

Students of Spanish nationality whose mother tongue is not Chinese and who have not been to school in China may participate.

Registration is free, to participate you must register at https://institutoconfucio.uv.es and fill in the following  form  and send it along with the required documentation to: instituto.confucio@uv.es before April 24, 2024.

 

Required documentation

Secondary and university categories:

  • ID and / or passport (scanned copy)
  • 1 recent passport size photo
  • Proof of enrollment of the teaching center
  • Accreditation of knowledge of Chinese

Amateurs of any age:

  • ID and / or Passport (photocopy or scanned original)
  • 1 recent passport size photo


 

 Awards

The first prize in the category of university students and the secondary category will receive a FREE SEMESTER COURSE for the 2024/2025 academic year at the Confucius Institute at the University of València.

On the other hand, the rest of the participants will receive a gift as a thank you for their participation.

The first prize of the university category and the first prize of the secondary category of the local phase held in Valencia will participate in the national final to be held in Granada on May 26, 2024.

The winners of the national final of the group of university students will attend the world final organized by the Chinese International Education Foundation in China in the month of July and in October for the group of students of E.S.O and BACHILLERATO (due date to be confirmed).

Only those who have obtained the first prize of the local phase in Spain from the group of university students and the group of secondary and high school students will compete in the final in China.

Preparation of the contest:

The professorship of the Confucius Institute at the University of València will help those who wish to prepare the competition for free.
