
We already have winners of the 1000 euros prize in cash of the business game sponsored by WinToWin Partners! The INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS INC team, made up of MBA students from the Facultat d’Economia have been the winners. The five team members, Daniel E. Giménez Hernández, Laura E. Espinosa Ruiz, María Kakunina, Carmelo Más Ballester and María de la Caridad Martínez, students in their first year of the Master in Business Administration (MBA), attributed the victory to teamwork, the assignment of roles to each of the participants, the time dedicated to each of the rounds of the game and the possibility of benchmarking to make right decisions.
On Thursday, April 23, the final session was held via Skype to meet the winning team of the Mentor Club business game. Thanks to the use of technologies, David Palet, Founder and Managing Partner of WinToWin Partners and coordinator of the business game in the 2019-2020 academic year, was able to give the long-awaited feedback to the ten participating teams.
Palet began the session by acknowledging the effort and commitment of the registered teams and then he gave a space for students to comment on their experiences with the business simulator. Some of the participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to participate in such an enriching activity and emphasized the excellent design of the platform. The students rated the business game as quite realistic in reference to the operation of a company and, given the circumstances, they stated that it was a challenge to finish the final rounds virtually, but that they managed to adapt and continue working with the greatest willingness to obtain the desired results.
The session continued with a tour of the business game platform, in which the global results of the financial statements obtained by the ten participating teams in each of the 6 stages of the game were exposed (1 test session and 5 definitive ones), as well as the most relevant data of each round in relation to the decisions taken by the teams, regarding the technologies launched in each market (Asia, the United States and Europe), the number of features developed and the sales price established for the different technologies offered; the investment in marketing and the production capacity used by these teams were also disclosed.
Team by team, Palet emphasized the decisions taken for each market during all rounds an the successes and improvements that could have been obtained by adopting better alternatives. For example, he illustrated that some teams had cannibalized sales of their various technologies with pricing strategies that could be improved.
The game coordinator concluded his presentation by explaining the results of each team through the analysis of the evolution of global income, EBITDA, global profits, company value, share value, dividends, and accumulated shareholder return in each of the groups to throughout the rounds. Finally, he announced the winning team.
The Academic Director of the Mentoring Club, Marisa Quintanilla, ended the session by congratulating the winning team, highlighting also teamwork and the value of the effort of all the students who had competed, who will receive a diploma of participation in the business game; likewise, she thanked WinToWin Partners and highlighted the commitment of David Palet, as representative and coordinator of the game.
