How many kilocalories do I burn by taking the stairs?

The calories burned by taking the stairs are indicated at the end of each flight of stairs. It is has been calculated by researchers from de Departament de Medicina Preventiva. The calories burned vary in each building according to the number of flights and steps.

What are lifts for?petjades a les escales

There are lifts in practically every building of the UV. Their purpose is to make the building accessible for everybody in case of physical problems, heavy freight transportation, etc. Instead of being used according to this, they are daily used because of inertia or laziness. This abusive use of the lifts is detrimental to health and it also requires large amount of electricity to move the motors.

Leave the lifts free for people with physical disabilities or freight.

Taking the stairs daily is a moderate physical activity which improves health: increases the respiratory capacity and decreases the cardiac frequency.

It also has benefits in other risk factors, such as cholesterol, blood pressure, insulin level and body fat. Moreover, it prevents anxiety and depression.
