Josephine (Juliette Binoche), a wealthy and cultured women, starts an expedition to the North Pole to meet with her husband, the explorer Robert Peary. During the journey, she meets with a humble Eskimo women (Rinko Kikuchi). Despite their many cultural and personal differences, both will have to unite to be able of surviving the difficult climate conditions of the tundra.
