The Servei de Llengües i Política Lingüística (Language and Linguistic Policy Service) offers proofreading, translation, and language consultancy services to the university community, subject to the following considerations. In cases where users wish to translate or proofread texts not included in the list of services provided, the Language Consultancy Section can provide guidance on other possible solutions.

Catalan

Translation and proofreading of classroom teaching materials, as well as administrative, institutional, cultural, management, and science communication texts.
Language consultancy, providing guidance and resolving queries regarding specialized, administrative, and general language usage.

We do not translate or proofread PhD theses, research papers, texts for personal use, or materials intended for publications with an ISBN that generate author rights.

English

Proofreading of classroom teaching materials.
Translation and proofreading of administrative and management texts, including certificates, agreements, forms, regulations, syllabi, press releases and software applications*.
Language consultancy, providing guidance and resolving queries regarding specialized language.

We do not translate or proofread PhD theses, articles, research papers, conference presentations, exhibitions, texts for personal use, or materials intended for publications with an ISBN that generate author rights.

* Please note that each request is assessed individually, taking into account justified institutional needs, the level of impact on the university community, and the workload of the Servei de Llengües i Política Lingüística.

Requirements

Catalan

Research, teaching, and administrative staff (PDI, PI, or PTGAS) at the Universitat de València.

English

Teaching and research staff (PDI or PI) who are assigned to teach in English in the POD (Academic Organisation Plan) for the current or upcoming academic year, specifically for the module for which the material proofreading is requested.
Administrative and professional services staff (PTGAS) at the Universitat de València services responsible for issuing the specified institutional documentation.

Terms and Conditions

Documents must be submitted in an editable format. Consequently, formats such as PDF are not accepted. We can translate images containing text in non-editable versions; please contact us in advance if you require this service.
For teaching materials, the translated or proofread version must be made available to students on the module's Aula Virtual (Virtual Classroom).
Regarding proofreading requests, please adhere to the following instructions:
1. Review the original documents beforehand and activate the spellchecker. Proofreading requests for texts that do not meet a minimum acceptable standard of quality may be rejected.
2. If you have originally drafted the documents in another language and translated them into Catalan or English using machine translation software, please review them fully before submission. Materials that have not been previously reviewed will be returned to the author for the necessary corrections.
3. The original version must always be sent alongside the submitted documents. For translations into Catalan, we recommend using the Apertium machine translator.
4. Before drafting texts or making any queries, it is advisable to review the materials recommended in the Resources and Publications section.

Deadlines

Delivery deadlines aim to accommodate users' needs, provided that a minimum notice of three working days is given. These timeframes may vary depending on the specificity of the terminology used, the linguistic quality of the original text, or the current workload.

If the requested deadline cannot be met, the staff at the Servei de Llengües i Política Lingüística will propose an alternative date.

Once the work is completed and within the agreed deadline, the staff at the Servei de Llengües i Política Lingüística will return the final document to you by email.

Please remember that if you have drafted your teaching materials in Catalan or English, you may be eligible to apply for an award for quality in the preparation of teaching materials in Catalan and English.
