Valencia Hosts the First International Congress “Towards New Paradigms of Justice in a Vulnerable and Sustainable World”

Valencia, September 2025 – On September 25 and 26, the city of Valencia will host the International Congress “Towards New Paradigms of Justice in a Vulnerable and Sustainable World”, a high-level academic gathering that will address the contemporary challenges of Law and Justice in the face of growing social and environmental vulnerabilities caused by climate change, the rise of artificial intelligence, and social inequality. In a rapidly changing world, there is an urgent need—now more than ever—for stronger intergenerational solidarity and multilateral cooperation, as well as a reformulation of the social contract upon which our society has been built. Justice and the judicial function will also be subject to the pressures of the Anthropocene.

Organized within the framework of the Support Program for the Promotion of Scientific Research, Technological Development, and Innovation by the Department of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment of the Generalitat Valenciana, the Congress is directed by Dr. Elena Martínez García, Professor of Procedural Law at the University of Valencia, together with her research team, in direct collaboration with the Manuel Serra Domínguez Chair for the Study of Procedural Law, led by Vicente Pérez Daudí, Professor of Procedural Law at the University of Barcelona.

The event will bring together prestigious national and international voices from the legal field, representing both academic institutions from Spain and Europe, as well as key institutions in the defense of human rights, such as the United Nations High Commissioner, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, the European Court of Human Rights, and the Spanish General Council of the Judiciary.

Two Days, Two Venues

On September 25, the Bar Association of Valencia will host the first round of panel discussions, focused on 21st-century procedural strategies for defending new interests, and on the role of artificial intelligence as a tool in the service of justice and the legal profession.

On September 26, the sessions will move to the Faculty of Law at the University of Valencia, where discussions will take place from ecofeminist perspectives, addressing topics such as the defense of new vulnerable subjects, the rights of future generations, and the State’s liability in the context of global transformations.

The Congress has been endorsed by the Valencia Bar Association as part of its continuing legal education program for attorneys.

Call for Papers

The Organizing Committee invites the academic and professional community to submit paper proposals related to the Congress themes. Abstracts (maximum 500 words) may be submitted between September 1 and 15, 2025, to the following email: futuregen@uv.es. Selected papers will be presented during the closing session, following a peer-review evaluation process.

An Essential Reflection for 21st-Century Law

This interdisciplinary Congress seeks to become a bold, feminist, ecocentric, and inclusive space for legal reflection, promoting the analysis of innovative legal responses—particularly from procedural law and related disciplines—to the challenges of an increasingly complex, unequal, and technologically advanced world. It is a vital reflection for legal professionals, who are called upon to provide effective, rights-based solutions adapted to new social, institutional, and regulatory realities.

Free Registration

Registration for the Congress is free of charge, in keeping with its commitment to making legal knowledge accessible to society and fostering both academic and social impact through dialogue among universities, legal professionals, and the wider public.

Interested participants may register until September 23 (or until full capacity is reached) by sending an email to: futuregen@uv.es
