The algal herbarium of the UV (VAL-Algae), in parallel with the development in the line of the phycology has been gradually enriched by donations, exchanges and material that has been found in explorations and several projects of phycological researches over the last decades and it keeps some rests of marine phanerogams and marine algae (green, red and brown algae). Mostly, they have been collecting on the Mediterranean coast, Spanish Atlantic coasts, Caribbean Sea and Indo-Pacific. The VAL-Algae herbarium is active and updated since a perspective from the nomenclature, computerized and organized systematically by genres. A part of its funds are accessible via the Internet (GBIF, Global Biodiversity Information Facility in Spain). It constitutes an up-to-date and growing record of an important part of our biodiversity, being at the same time, a privileged information bank for future taxonomic, biogeographical and ecological research. So that in collaboration with other herbaria and collections of the Universitat de València, an important referent, scientific and patrimonial of our natural capital.
