Cristina Doménech Hernández. Journalism

Cristina Doménech Hernández

I can not remember the first time I told my parents that I wanted to study Journalism, but it is impossible to erase from my memory the many times people around me warned me that journalism had no future. Putting those negative opinions out of my mind and starting the Degree in Journalism at UV allowed me to realize that they were wrong. During these three years, along with my colleagues I have dived through the history of communication, but I have also acquired notions of how to handle myself with a television camera. In hand of media professionals, I have learned that, behind the word "journalism", there are more job opportunities than a young student could apparently cite: community manager, computer graphic artist, teacher, etc.

The internship courses take place in fourth year, so in my case, I still can not comment on them. Instead, I can speak about extracurricular practices. Those that I have been able to carry out to this day have opened the doors of institutional communication and have allowed me to combine two of my passions: communication and Fallas. The University offers to students a wide range of practices, also in the media, so that they can finally decide which area of communication they are most comfortable with. Also, the wide variety of subjects offered helps students to make this decision.

On the other hand, the faculty also organises activities, conferences and events attended by active journalists and communicators. Furthermore, in some subjects we have received the visit of journalists who have passed on their vision of the profession and their experience to us in petit comité. In conclusion, there are interesting activities that complement the teaching given by the professors.

Apart from the academic training, after these three years, I will take the idea that the first stone to erect me as a good journalist is the formation in values. Values, doubtless, taught by the teachers, but also by your classmates, many of whom are now almost part of my family.
