The Consulate of Japan visits UV on the occasion of the Read Japan Project

The Consul General of Japan in Barcelona, SHIKATA Akiko , and the Head of Cultural Affairs of the Consulate MIYAJIMA Tomo, visited the UV on 10th June 2025 for the Read Japan Project, through which the university has received two collections of books with an estimated value of $20,000. One collection will be held at the Joan Reglà Humanities Library to support Japan-related teaching and research offered at the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication , and another one to the UV Language Centre to support Japanese language courses. The Consulate staff was received by the Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Multilingualism, and the Vice-Rector of Research, the Dean and Vice Dean of the FFTiC , the Head of the Department of Language Theory and Communication Sciences, lecturers of the Certificate and Master's programs in Japanese and Korean Studies, and staff members of the UV Language Center.

UV was selected for the Read Japan Project with the recommendation of the Consulate General of Japan in Barcelona, which acted as an intermediary as the official office of the Japanese government overseas. The Japan Project aims to promote Japan-related studies in universities and libraries around the world. The project is administered by the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research and is financially supported by Nippon Foundation, to which the Japan Publishing Industry belongs Foundation for Culture (JPIC). The collection is now available to the university community, students, and researchers interested in Japan from any discipline.

After presenting how the teaching, research and outreach initiatives at the UV will be benefited from the Read Japan Project, the event ended with the performance of the flutist Noelia Juan Nogués who played a piece composed by of Toru Takemitsu and haiku reading by author Mila Villanueva.
